What Should I Use to Roll a Blunt With?
There are many suitable options to roll up a blunt with. Below I will define the difference between a blunt and a cigarillo, which can both be used to gut and roll cannabis blunts with, and take a look at different and the best brands to use. Happy smoking!
A blunt is a cigar which is wider than a cigarillo and not quite as wide as a Corona. Blunt cigars typically consist of two main parts; the inner leaf, which is similar to a cigarette rolling paper, except it is made of tobacco, and a thicker outer leaf which is rolled around the inner leaf in a spiral.
A blunt may also refer to a slang term for a cannabis cigar where the wrapping is a tobacco product. The leaf of a spiral wrapped cigar is moistened and removed. The cigar is then cut and the tobacco is removed and discarded. The cannabis fills the tobacco wrapping and is rolled back up to be smoked.
A cigarillo is a short, narrow cigar. In Spanish “cigarillo” literally translates to ‘little cigar’. Unlike cigarettes, cigarillos are wrapped not in white paper but in tobacco leaves or brown tobacco based paper.
Brands to Use:
White Owl
American-made and machine produced. Probably the best, stickiest and easiest cigar style blunts to roll. Very popular brand amongst cannabis culture and are relatively inexpensive. White Owl cigars come in many styles: Blunts, Blunts Xtra, Cigarillos, and more. They also feature many flavours including Sweet, Grape, Strawberry, Pineapple, Vanilla and many more.

Phillies
Another American-made brand of cigars originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Very popular and great tasting cigars that can be used to roll up fantastic blunts. A Phillies Blunt often refers to a particular size of Phillies cigars however since the 1980s has come to refer to all cannabis cigars. Phillies are available in the following sizes: Black Max, Blunt, Cheroot, Cigarillo, Mini Blunts and more. They also come in a variety of flavours including banana, cognac, mango, strawberry, sweet vanilla, tequila and many more.
The company that owns and produces “Phillies” is called Altadis. They also produce two other fantastic brands of cigars that are exceptional for rolling blunts with. These include Backwoods and Dutch Masters cigars.
Swisher Sweets
Swisher Sweets cigars are manufactured by Swisher International which was established in 1861 however Swisher Sweets cigars weren’t introduced until the late 1950s. These cigars often come with a wooden tip and the tobacco has to be rolled out of them with your fingers, rather than splitting and gutting them then re-rolling. Swisher Sweets comes in a variety of styles: Little Cigars, Cigarillos, Tip Cigarillos, Wood Tips, Slims, L’s and more. They also feature a variety of flavours: Peach, Menthol, Chocolate, Grape, Double Barrel Rum and others.
This is not an exhaustive list of what brands of cigars you can use to roll blunts with. These are probably my favourite, the most popular and the best recommended choices for rolling blunts with though. Other options include:
- Optimo Cigars
- Pom Poms
